Data from payment platform Ramp, covering 70,000 companies, indicates a slowdown in AI tool adoption during August. The share of customers paying for AI products reached 56%, marking a marginal increase of 0.4% compared to the previous month.
A notable trend is the nearly 10% decline in AI spending per employee among the top 1% of firms, which dropped to $7,205. This shift is partly attributed to the reduction in token costs, which fell to $0.68 per million tokens from the March peak of $1.15.
The findings suggest that increased usage volume has not yet offset the impact of price cuts implemented by major labs like OpenAI and Anthropic. Consequently, many businesses are opting for older, more affordable models rather than the latest frontier releases.
Despite the competitive landscape, only 6.4% of businesses spending on AI utilized model-serving or inference platforms in August. While this segment is growing, it remains insufficient to significantly influence broader corporate adoption patterns at this stage.
