Cornelis, a developer of networking technology for AI infrastructure, secured $205 million in a funding round led by IAG Capital Partners. The company, which originated as an Intel spinoff in 2020, focuses on optimizing communication between AI chips to reduce idle processing time.

The firm introduced its Active Compute Fabric, a networking solution designed to allow chips to process and transmit information simultaneously. This architecture aims to resolve inefficiencies where GPUs remain idle while waiting for incoming data.

By offering an open architecture, Cornelis enables customers to integrate various GPU and accelerator hardware. This approach serves as an alternative to the proprietary ecosystem of Nvidia, which typically encourages users to adopt its full software and hardware stack.

Cornelis has already commenced shipments of its current networking product. The company is currently developing a new generation of the technology, with a market release scheduled for later this year.
