New regulations from the SEC may soon allow financial advisors to hold Bitcoin on behalf of their clients. Shan Aggarwal, the Chief Business Officer at Coinbase, stated that the company is currently developing the necessary custody infrastructure to support this shift in the advisor market.

Coinbase currently provides custody services for a significant portion of existing Bitcoin ETFs. Aggarwal noted that major financial institutions, including BlackRock and JPMorgan, are actively engaging with the company to utilize its infrastructure for their digital asset strategies.

Beyond custody, Coinbase is collaborating with Citi to integrate stablecoin payment solutions for merchants. The company is also exploring new use cases for Bitcoin, including the Lightning Network, AI agent payment systems, and reward programs linked to everyday spending.

The firm is positioning itself to capture growth in the stablecoin sector, which Aggarwal described as a trillion-dollar opportunity. These initiatives are part of a broader effort to expand Bitcoin access and integrate digital assets into traditional financial management services.
