The Central Bank of Ireland has imposed a penalty of €3,252,618 on the Irish division of Coinbase. This enforcement action follows findings that the company failed to adequately protect customer funds between November 2020 and August 2025, violating local Electronic Money Regulations.
The final fine amount includes a 30% discount applied after Coinbase Ireland reached a settlement with the regulator on October 21. The initial penalty was set at €4,646,597. The sanction is currently awaiting formal confirmation from the High Court of Ireland.
Regulators identified several operational failures, including an over-reliance on the U.S. parent company for safeguarding processes and insufficient local oversight. The firm also failed to maintain adequate funding in designated accounts and did not properly report material changes to the Central Bank.
This marks the second regulatory penalty for Coinbase in Ireland this year. In May, the Central Bank fined another entity, Coinbase Europe, €21.5 million due to deficiencies in anti-money-laundering controls. Coinbase uses Ireland as its primary hub for EU operations.
