Coinbase is integrating its full suite of financial products into its Layer 2 network, Base. This strategy aims to make the network the primary infrastructure for all trading and payment operations across both the main exchange platform and Coinbase Wallet.

The network recently reached a record $5,7 billion in total value locked within its decentralized finance protocols. Coinbase attributes this growth to the network's low transaction fees and high processing speeds, noting that the expansion has occurred without the use of a native token or airdrop incentives.

On September 10, the company rebranded its 'Base App' back to Coinbase Wallet, shifting focus toward multichain trading while maintaining Base as the core platform for asset discovery. This decision follows a year-long experiment with a social-first product model that failed to meet internal expectations.

Institutional interest is also growing, as J.P. Morgan has begun testing its JPMD deposit tokens on Base to facilitate instant, round-the-clock settlements. Additionally, in early 2026, the network transitioned from the OP Stack framework to its own proprietary technology stack.
