Cloudflare has officially announced the acquisition of Deno, a startup recognized for its eponymous programming runtime. The deal aims to enhance the Cloudflare Workers platform, which enables developers to build and execute software directly on the company's network infrastructure.
Deno was co-founded by Ryan Dahl, the creator of Node.js, alongside Bert Belder. The startup recently introduced celld, an open-source implementation of Workers. According to Kenton Varda, principal engineer for Cloudflare Workers, this development impressed the Cloudflare team and aligns with their commitment to open-source standards.
The financial details of the transaction remain undisclosed. Prior to this acquisition, Deno had successfully raised $26 million in total funding, with its Series A round led by the venture capital firm Sequoia.
