Jeremy Allaire, CEO of Circle, has publicly urged AI developer Anthropic to proceed with an initial public offering. In his open letter titled 'Take the Leap, Anthropic,' he argued that the transition to a public company would enforce higher standards of transparency and accountability, which are essential for the development of safe artificial intelligence.
Allaire pointed to his own company's experience after listing on the NYSE, noting that public market discipline mandates rigorous financial reporting and internal controls. He believes that such oversight transforms emerging technologies into reliable infrastructure, fostering trust among government entities, banks, and large-scale corporate clients.
The Circle executive emphasized that an IPO should be complemented by clear government regulation. He drew a parallel to the stablecoin market and the GENIUS Act, suggesting that AI firms should adopt voluntary transparency standards while lawmakers establish a comprehensive regulatory framework for the industry.
According to Allaire, major AI companies are becoming critical components of the global economy. Consequently, he argues that the public interest extends beyond financial metrics to include security protocols, computational spending, and corporate governance. He stated that filing an S-1 form is a more effective response to safety concerns than standard press releases.
