Circle has introduced its Gateway infrastructure to streamline USDC transfers across blockchains. By integrating with the Eco fast-deposit service, the company has reduced cross-chain deposit times from the standard 13 to 19 minutes down to a range of 20 to 40 seconds.

The system utilizes non-custodial Gateway Wallet contracts deployed on various source chains. Once a deposit is finalized on-chain, the balance becomes available on the destination chain within 500 milliseconds. The process leverages ERC-3009 authorizations to enable gasless transfer approvals in a single step.

The architecture supports specific deposit methods, including deposit, depositWithPermit, and depositWithAuthorization. Users are cautioned that sending standard ERC-20 transfers directly to these contracts may lead to a permanent loss of funds.

To ensure asset control, the Gateway includes a 7-day trustless withdrawal feature, allowing users to recover funds independently if third-party services fail. Additionally, the system supports the ERC-1271 standard for smart contract signature verification.
