Chipotle is currently testing a new Food Safety Risk Management Platform developed by Palantir. The software utilizes the Foundry system to aggregate data into a centralized dashboard for monitoring food safety risks across restaurant locations.
The platform calculates risk scores for individual restaurants based on three primary data points: health department inspection results, reports of pest sightings, and records of employee illnesses. These scores are intended for internal use by the company headquarters.
Laurie Schalow, Chipotle's chief corporate affairs and food safety officer, confirmed the pilot program. The company has not disclosed the number of participating locations, the official launch date, or whether the collected data is anonymized.
Palantir, co-founded by Peter Thiel in 2003, received early funding from In-Q-Tel, the venture capital arm of the CIA. Approximately half of the company's revenue is derived from federal government contracts, including work for the U.S. Army and Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Beyond government agencies, Palantir provides data analytics services to various commercial clients, including Tyson, General Mills, and Wendy's. The company's software is used to manage food inventory and track operational data within these organizations.
