The combined annual recurring revenue (ARR) of seven major Chinese AI developers reached $10.7 billion between March and August 2026. This figure represents approximately 10% of the combined revenue reported by OpenAI and Anthropic, which exceeded $100 billion.
ByteDance leads the Chinese sector with an AI-related ARR of $4 billion as of July, followed by Alibaba with $2.4 billion in August. Other companies show rapid growth; for instance, Z.ai saw its ARR increase from $74 million in January to $1.6 billion in August.
Investment in Chinese AI infrastructure reached ¥932 billion ($139 billion) in 2026, more than double the previous year's level, with projections for 2027 exceeding ¥1.2 trillion ($193 billion). In contrast, US data center investments for 2026 are estimated at $800 billion.
The financial structure of the Chinese AI industry relies heavily on equity and bank loans, with state-backed funds contributing 25% of direct investments. In the chip and server segment, state-affiliated entities and banks account for over 60% of total funding.
Valuation multiples for Chinese AI firms often exceed those of their US counterparts. DeepSeek trades at 163x its ARR, while Moonshot AI's valuation rose from $4 billion in late 2025 to $50 billion in August 2026. However, Chinese firms face lower margins due to aggressive pricing strategies.
