Eight Chinese government departments, including the Ministry of Commerce, have released an action plan to stimulate the smart home market. The initiative focuses on expanding consumer supply, improving product standards, and fostering the development of integrated digital home ecosystems.

Financial institutions are encouraged to develop diverse consumer finance products and utilize fiscal interest subsidies for loans. This measure aims to increase support for smart home purchases and home renovation projects, making these technologies more accessible to consumers.

The plan mandates the creation of a standardized grading system for smart home products and the implementation of compulsory national standards for interoperability. It also requires telecommunications providers to enable IPv6 by default on home broadband equipment to improve connectivity.

New residential construction projects will be required to include basic smart home features and fiber-optic cabling. The government also plans to support the development of smart home hardware and software based on domestic open-source operating systems.

The strategy includes provisions for the 2026 trade-in policy, allowing local authorities to determine specific subsidies for smart home products. Additionally, the plan promotes the development of age-friendly technologies, such as service robots and health monitoring devices.

To manage waste, the government will integrate recycling points into urban planning and encourage partnerships between home furnishing companies and recycling firms. New service stations will be established in communities to offer maintenance, storage, and trade-in services.
