The State Administration for Market Regulation and the National Standardization Committee of China have released the first national standard for perovskite photovoltaics, titled GB/T 6495.12—2026. This document establishes standardized measurement methods for current-voltage (I-V) characteristics of perovskite cells and modules. The regulation is scheduled to take effect in 2027.

The standard was proposed by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and managed by the National Technical Committee for Solar Photovoltaic Energy Systems. It addresses technical challenges such as device performance fluctuations under light and voltage changes, as well as the lack of unified definitions for surface area and efficiency calculations that previously hindered accurate testing.

The new guidelines specify requirements for testing equipment, stabilization procedures, and calculation methods for power generation efficiency. It introduces various testing approaches, including rapid measurement, maximum power point tracking, and quasi-steady-state fitting methods, to accommodate both laboratory research and large-scale industrial production needs.

By establishing a unified framework for testing, the standard aims to ensure fair comparisons of results across different institutions. It serves as a technical foundation for product certification, quality control in manufacturing, and international trade, filling a significant gap in the standardization of emerging photovoltaic technologies in China.
