The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China has released a draft for public comment regarding five mandatory national standards, including requirements for automotive data security and lighting installations. These updates aim to standardize vehicle lighting systems and safety protocols across the industry.
Under the new regulations, vehicle lights are prohibited from displaying text, with the sole exception of illuminated logos. Furthermore, the standards mandate that turn signals and reversing lights must be kept separate from brake and rear fog lights to prevent light mixing issues.
The draft introduces specific requirements for blue-green light colors dedicated to Automated Driving System (ADS) indicator lights. Additionally, signal lights with variable intensity must adjust their brightness uniformly across the entire unit rather than switching off individual light sources.
A significant change involves the restriction of control methods for vehicle lighting. The new rules explicitly ban the use of voice commands to turn off lights and prohibit the use of gesture controls for operating standard lighting functions defined in the document.
For lights activated via voice commands, the vehicle must clearly indicate the physical location of the manual switch to the driver. These measures are part of the ongoing revision process organized by the National Automotive Standardization Technical Committee.
