The State Grid Corporation of China has introduced a dual-armed robot designed for high-voltage power line maintenance. Currently, the Heilongjiang Electric Power company utilizes this machine in Qitaihe, Heilongjiang province. The robot performs tasks on 10 kV lines, including connecting new power lines, without requiring power outages.
The machine first entered service in early 2026 on a central section of the local grid. By using this technology, technicians can manage operations remotely via a tablet while remaining on the ground, avoiding direct exposure to strong electric fields. The robot relies on machine vision and multiple sensors to navigate and execute precise movements.
Beyond connecting wires, the robot is capable of trimming tree branches near power lines and replacing surge arresters. The system integrates sensor data and local processing to adjust its actions in real time. Currently, these robots are deployed across 9 energy units in Heilongjiang province, with plans to expand their use for hazardous tasks.
