OpenAI has introduced the Intelligent UI update for ChatGPT, powered by the GPT-6 model. This feature enables the AI to generate visual and interactive elements, such as charts, diagrams, and buttons, directly within its responses to assist users with specific tasks.
Practical applications include interactive tools like a rental cost calculator for San Francisco, which uses sliders to adjust income and expenses. Another example features a detailed aircraft seat map for Alaska Airlines and Delta Air Lines, allowing users to click on seats to view specific information and highlighting preferred rows.
According to product manager Aarush Selvan, the company's designers carefully curated when these visual elements appear to avoid interface clutter. Users retain the ability to request that the AI limit the use of these interactive components if they prefer a simpler text-based experience.
The rollout of Intelligent UI is global and free from regional restrictions. While availability is tied to existing subscription plans, OpenAI confirmed that basic access for free-tier users will begin tomorrow. This move follows similar generative UI announcements previously made by Google.
