The SAP FEB_FILE_HANDLING functionality serves as a unified entry point for importing bank statements, regardless of the communication channel or file format, such as XML or text. This system supports both direct bank communication services and files exported from client-bank software.
A standard import scheme for intraday statements allows for the creation of payment advices to update cash position data. However, this traditional approach has a significant limitation: statements processed without posting to the Financial Accounting module cannot be used to clear open items.
Operational clearing of incoming payments is a high-priority task that often outweighs the need for intraday cash position updates. Current developments in bank communication services and improved data quality in statement formats now allow for more detailed payment information to be captured during the business day.
Despite these technical advancements, traditional processes keep intraday and final statements separate. Consequently, the potential to utilize detailed intraday data for immediate payment clearing remains underused, as these statements are currently handled without generating financial accounting entries.
