The Cardano Foundation launched the CIP-0113 standard on the mainnet on October 7, 2026. This native token standard enables issuers to freeze, seize, and restrict assets directly on-chain. The framework is designed for regulated products, such as stablecoins and tokenized funds, allowing issuers to implement KYC, AML, and sanctions checks.
The implementation utilizes the Cardano eUTXO model and does not require a hard fork. Issuers can integrate compliance rules during minting, burning, and transfers. The standard features a modular structure with pluggable substandards, enabling the creation of custom modules. A mechanism called unfracking addresses potential issues with shared outputs.
The standard is optional and applies only to tokens whose issuers choose to adopt it. The native ADA token is not subject to these controls. Development of the proposal began in 2023, and it was added to the CIP repository on September 29, 2026. Following the announcement, the price of ADA fell from $0.28 to $0.253.
Several industry participants support the new standard, including the Eternl and GeroWallet wallets, as well as the CardanoScan block explorer. Additionally, the Swiss Capital Markets and Technology Association has recognized tokens compliant with CIP-0113, comparing them to its own CMTAT framework for on-chain equity securities.
