Cardano Foundation has deployed the CIP-0113 programmable token standard on the Cardano mainnet as of October 7. The implementation allows issuers of regulated assets, such as stablecoins and real-world assets, to integrate compliance rules directly into native tokens without requiring a hard fork.

The standard supports features including KYC and AML checks, sanctions enforcement, and mechanisms for freezing or seizing assets. These rules are enforced by the network during token transfers, issuance, or burning. The implementation utilizes existing native asset infrastructure and Plutus smart contracts.

Issuers can select pre-built modules or develop custom logic for their tokens. The framework addresses potential conflicts with DeFi protocols by allowing for specific modules that define how assets are handled within smart contracts, such as liquidity pools or escrow accounts.

The standard was added to the Cardano Improvement Proposals repository on September 29 and underwent independent security audits prior to the mainnet launch. Support for the new token type has been integrated by platforms including Eternl, GeroWallet, CardanoScan, and BloxBean.

The Capital Markets and Technology Association has recognized the CIP-0113 profile for tokenized equity securities as equivalent to its CMTAT standard. This certification enables the issuance of tokenized shares on Cardano, though the recognition does not currently extend to debt instruments.
