Capital Group has regained its status as the largest shareholder in Metaplanet, a Tokyo-listed firm focused on Bitcoin treasury strategies. According to a filing with the Kanto Local Finance Bureau dated October 23, 2026, the asset manager now controls 143,301,084 shares, representing 11.11% of voting rights.
The increase follows a period earlier in 2026 when the firm's stake fell below the 10% threshold. To rebuild its position, Capital Group acquired approximately 17.8 million additional shares through market purchases, rising from a previous holding of 125,455,820 shares, or 9.76% of voting rights.
Metaplanet, which transitioned from hotel and entertainment operations to a Bitcoin-focused strategy in 2024 under CEO Simon Gerovich, held approximately 44,000 BTC as of late September 2026. The company's share count has fluctuated throughout 2026 due to equity issuance and buybacks.
Capital Group manages these holdings through Capital Research and Management Company. The firm maintains active management of its position, including share-lending arrangements with institutions such as JPMorgan and Fidelity.
