A survey commissioned by Clean Energy Canada indicates that 48% of Canadians are considering an electric vehicle for their next purchase. Among these potential buyers, 42% stated they intend to wait for the availability of more Chinese electric vehicle models.
Canada and China have reached an agreement allowing for the import of 49 000 Chinese electric vehicles annually. To date, approximately 16 000 units have been imported into the country.
The distribution of these vehicles is currently in progress as companies establish their networks. While some brands, including Tesla, have already reached their assigned quota, others are still working to scale their operations.
The preference for Chinese electric vehicles among Canadian consumers is attributed to expectations of higher technology and lower pricing compared to existing Western alternatives currently available in the North American market.
