Munich-based startup calliora has secured $6 million in a pre-seed funding round. The investment was led by Bertelsmann Healthcare Investments and redalpine. The company plans to use the capital to scale its engineering and product teams and expand its AI platform's capabilities across hospital billing workflows.
The funding round included participation from angel investors with backgrounds in hospital management and AI, such as former executives from Asklepios and Mediclin AG, as well as representatives from Deloitte and Silo AI. The startup was founded in 2023 by researchers Frederik Träuble and Jonas Wildberger.
The company's software aims to reduce billing errors in German hospitals, which face stricter audit regulations starting in 2027. Under the Statutory Health Insurance Contribution Rate Stabilisation Act, hospitals with high rejection rates may face audits on up to 100% of their invoices. Calliora processes data within Germany, adhering to GDPR and ISO 27001 standards.
The startup operates in a competitive European market alongside other AI-focused healthtech firms. Recent funding activity in the sector includes Parallel's $20 million Series A, Health Force's €4.2 million seed round, and Tandem Health's $100 million Series B. Calliora focuses specifically on the intersection of clinical documentation, coding, and hospital economics.
