BYD registered 234 099 vehicles in Europe during the first eight months of the year, marking a 144.1 percent increase compared to the same period last year. The company currently holds a 2.5 percent market share in the region, up from 1.1 percent previously.
Ford recorded 244 938 registrations in Europe through August, reflecting a 14.4 percent decline. The gap between the two manufacturers has narrowed to 10 839 vehicles, with analysts suggesting BYD could overtake Ford on the European leaderboard before the year ends.
Other Chinese manufacturers are also gaining significant ground. SAIC reported 230 290 registrations, while Geely reached 289 128 units, surpassing Ford. Chery saw a 279.7 percent growth, totaling 207 871 registrations. Collectively, these four groups now account for 10.4 percent of the European market.
Ford is responding to the shifting landscape by collaborating with Renault to develop a new lineup of five vehicles tailored for Europe, expected by the end of the decade. The strategy includes potential revivals of classic models and new multi-energy crossovers to replace aging offerings like the Puma and Kuga.
