BYD has reportedly placed an order for 10 additional pure car and truck carriers (PCTCs). Each of the new vessels will have a capacity of 9,200 car equivalent units (CEU), adding a total of 92,000 CEU to the company's logistics capabilities.

The vessels will be constructed by China Merchants Industry at its Jinling and Haimen shipyards. Deliveries are scheduled to take place between 2027 and 2029. Once these ships enter service, the total size of the BYD fleet will reach 18 vessels.

The combined capacity of the expanded fleet will exceed 130,000 CEU. Estimates suggest that these additions will increase the company's annual export capacity to 2,500,000 vehicles, compared to the 1,000,000 capacity provided by the initial eight-ship fleet.

BYD currently operates eight RoRo vessels, including the Explorer No.1 and the BYD Jinan, which completed the initial fleet in September 2025. These ships have individual capacities ranging from 7,200 to 9,000 cars.

In August, BYD exported 183,746 passenger vehicles from China, representing a 130.8% year-on-year increase. From January to August, the company's total exports reached 1,126,797 vehicles, marking an 87.5% growth compared to the same period in 2025.
