Footage circulating on Chinese social media shows a BYD Fang Cheng Bao Bao 8 SUV traveling on three wheels along a public street in Jinshan Town, Jiangsu province. The vehicle is equipped with a yellow-and-red metal wheel clamp on its raised front-left wheel.
This incident follows BYD's May 2026 demonstrations of its DiSus-P Ultra hydraulic suspension system. During those trials at a proving ground, the company showcased the system's ability to lift an individual wheel while the vehicle moves on the remaining three.
The DiSus-P Ultra system, featured on the Bao 8 Flash Charge Edition launched in China on May 13, 2026, allows for individual-wheel lifting and low-speed three-wheel driving. The system offers up to 200 mm of suspension travel and a lift height of up to 300 mm.
During the May demonstrations, BYD specified a maximum speed of 15 km/h for three-wheel driving. The system has a maximum lifting capacity of 9 metric tons. The recent public-road footage has prompted questions regarding safety regulations and the Road Traffic Safety Law.
