A developer has created a custom desktop monitoring system for LLM provider quotas, utilizing an ESP32 microcontroller and a Windows application. The system tracks usage limits for Claude, Codex, Grok, and Kimi, displaying the remaining quota on a small screen.
The Windows application aggregates quota data from the providers and serves it as a JSON payload. The ESP32 fetches this data every 30 seconds over Wi-Fi. The project is built using Rust for both the desktop application and the microcontroller firmware.
Hardware components include an ESP32 board and a 1.8-inch TFT SPI display. The developer opted for the ST7735S driver for the screen. The system uses an encoder for navigation, with a 20ms software debounce and a dedicated thread for polling to ensure system stability.
To avoid resource-intensive tasks on the microcontroller, the ESP32 only processes the filtered JSON payload. Sensitive tokens are stored and encrypted on the Windows machine using DPAPI. The desktop application is built with Win32 API for minimal resource usage.
The project includes an adaptive web interface for mobile access and a tray icon for the desktop app. The developer has published the source code, connection diagrams, and assembly instructions in a public repository.
