BrainCo, a Chinese brain-computer interface company, is developing a wearable device designed to suppress appetite through electrical brain stimulation. The company positions this technology as a non-pharmaceutical alternative to GLP-1 weight-loss drugs like Wegovy and Zepbound. Co-founder Nyx He stated that the product is intended to launch in China within the next two to three years, with potential expansion into the US market afterward.
The company is exploring two commercial versions of the device: a medical-grade model and a consumer-focused version. While BrainCo currently specializes in non-invasive BCI technology, such as headbands for treating insomnia and ADHD, it is also considering future development of invasive, implantable brain-computer interface solutions.
Beyond weight management, BrainCo produces smart prosthetic hands that allow users to perform fine motor tasks, such as playing the piano. The company also supplies dexterous robotic hands for the humanoid robotics industry. Despite increasing US regulatory scrutiny regarding investments in Chinese BCI firms, the company reports strong demand for its prosthetic technology in the American market.
Regarding corporate financing and potential public market plans, the company has not provided official updates. However, Bloomberg previously reported in January that BrainCo had confidentially filed for an initial public offering in Hong Kong. The firm continues to expand its portfolio from existing neuro-therapeutic devices and robotics into new BCI applications.
