BMW Group has launched series production of its sixth-generation high-voltage batteries at its Shenyang site in China. This facility is the third in the company's global battery network, following plants in Debrecen and Irlbach-Straßkirchen. The batteries are intended for Neue Klasse models produced locally for the Chinese market.

The Gen6 batteries feature round cells with a 4.6 cm diameter and heights of 9.5 cm or 12 cm. This design offers a 20 percent increase in energy density and up to 30 percent improvements in charging speed and range. The architecture utilizes a cell-to-pack approach, eliminating modules to save weight and space while incorporating a proprietary Energy Master control unit.

The Shenyang site is operated by the BMW Brilliance Automotive joint venture and consists of the Dadong, Lydia, and Tiexi plants. In April 2024, BMW and Liaoning Province signed a letter of intent for a €2.5 billion investment to prepare the site for the Neue Klasse. As of 2024, the annual production capacity at the location reached 830,000 vehicles.

Pre-series production of the long-wheelbase iX3 began in late 2025. Pre-sale prices for the model range from ¥269,900 to ¥339,900. While initial deliveries are expected in November, reports indicate that larger volumes may not reach customers until 2027 due to extensive quality testing. BMW is also preparing to start battery assembly in South Carolina and Mexico.
