BMW is currently conducting final testing of the refreshed M5 sedan at the Nurburgring circuit. The updated model, which follows the current G90 generation introduced in mid-2024, is scheduled for release in 2027. The design and onboard technology will align with the company's new generation vehicle standards.

The exterior updates focus on the front end, featuring a shark-nose design, a slimmer kidney grille, and revised air intakes. The rear will receive new LED taillights and a modified bumper, while retaining the quad-exhaust setup. Customers will likely continue to have the option of 20-inch and 21-inch M Performance lightweight alloy wheels.

Inside, the cabin will feature a larger central display, a redesigned steering wheel, and the BMW Panoramic iDrive system. The dashboard will incorporate a full-width head-up display spanning from pillar to pillar, mirroring the interior layout of the latest BMW i3, iX3, iX4, X5, and 3 Series models.

The powertrain is expected to remain unchanged, utilizing a plug-in hybrid system consisting of a 4.4L V8 twin-turbo engine and a single electric motor. The setup delivers a combined output of 535kW and 1000N·m of torque. The sedan accelerates from 0 to 100km/h in 3.5 seconds, while the touring version takes 3.6 seconds.

BMW M engineers are focusing on further refining the vehicle's handling and suspension characteristics. Despite the current model weighing 2.5 tons, the company aims to improve its performance dynamics. Camouflage on test vehicles is expected to be reduced in the coming weeks and months ahead of the official debut.
