Blue Origin has unveiled the Power Tower, a 20-meter tall vertical solar array system designed to provide over 10 kilowatts of electricity for lunar bases. The company shared a demonstration animation on X on September 25, illustrating the deployment process on the lunar surface. A real-world test of the hardware was conducted on Earth on July 22, 2026.
The system features a modular architecture intended to support power distribution networks beyond the landing site. It serves as an evolution of the Lunar Array Mast and Power System (LAMPS) technology, which was developed by Blue Origin's subsidiary, Honeybee Robotics. LAMPS underwent testing at NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston in 2024.
Honeybee Robotics is also involved in NASA's Vertical Solar Array Technology (VSAT) project, aimed at enabling long-term human presence on the Moon. Blue Origin intends for the Power Tower to support operations at the lunar south pole, potentially integrating into NASA's Artemis lunar base plans. The base is currently in its first phase, with full operation expected by 2032.
