Blue Energy Global has filed an initial construction permit application with the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission. The company plans to build a hybrid gas-to-nuclear facility at the Port of Victoria in Texas to supply power to a Crusoe data center campus.
The project aims for a total capacity of 2.5 GW. The first phase involves two GE Vernova 7HA.02 gas turbines providing 1 GW of power within approximately 36 months. The second phase will add 1.5 GW using up to five GE Vernova Hitachi BWRX-300 small modular reactors.
The gas-powered phase is expected to start supplying the AI campus by 2028, while the modular reactors are targeted for 2032. A final investment decision for the project is scheduled for 2027.
Blue Energy has secured over $400 million in funding since its inception in 2023, including backing from Constellation Technology Ventures. The facility will be located on a 1,600-acre site chosen for its existing infrastructure.
