Blackstone, managing $1.3 trillion in assets, is actively financing the AI sector through its dedicated hub, Blackstone N1. The firm provides capital ranging from debt to equity for data centers, frontier AI models, and neocloud providers.
The firm pioneered a financing model for neoclouds, using customer contracts and GPUs as collateral. A notable example is the $2.3 billion loan provided to CoreWeave in 2023. Blackstone also committed $5 billion to Crux AI and co-led a $10 billion credit facility for Firmus.
Market concerns regarding the debt levels of neocloud operators have intensified, with CoreWeave's debt reaching approximately $50 billion. Recent economic factors, including rising interest rates and inflation, have increased borrowing costs and impacted market valuations, leading Firmus to cancel its planned IPO.
Despite these pressures, Blackstone maintains that the debt is backed by creditworthy hyperscalers. The firm continues to invest in AI integration, including a $1.5 billion joint venture with Anthropic and Hellman & Friedman to support AI adoption across its 280 portfolio companies.
