BlackRock has submitted a filing to the US Securities and Exchange Commission for the iShares Bitcoin Managed Protection ETF. The proposed financial product aims to provide investors with exposure to the performance of the iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) while incorporating a mechanism to limit potential losses during market downturns.
The new fund is structured to operate on top of the existing IBIT, rather than holding Bitcoin directly through a separate framework. As of now, the asset manager has not released details regarding the ticker symbol, fee structure, or the specific timeline for the official product launch.
This filing follows the June 2026 introduction of the iShares Bitcoin Premium Income ETF (BITA), which utilizes a covered call strategy on IBIT to generate yield. BlackRock reported that its total assets across digital asset ETFs reached approximately $80 billion in the third quarter of 2026.
The flagship iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) debuted in January 2024 as one of the initial spot Bitcoin exchange-traded products in the United States. It currently holds a market-leading position in the category, managing assets valued in the tens of billions of dollars.
