BlackRock has sold $71.78 million in Bitcoin, a move driven by investor redemptions from its iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT). The asset manager clarifies that these sales are reactive to client demand rather than a change in the firm's strategic position on the asset.
Recent data shows significant outflows from the fund. On October 7, 2026, IBIT recorded outflows of $207.7 million, contributing to a total of $484.9 million in net outflows across all US spot Bitcoin ETFs that day. By October 13, 2026, IBIT clients sold approximately $65.4 million in Bitcoin.
The broader market trend indicates a period of weakness for crypto-linked ETFs. Combined outflows from Bitcoin and Ethereum products exceeded $1.2 billion for the week, marking the lowest performance for these funds since late June 2026. During this time, Bitcoin traded between $80,000 and $83,000.
IBIT, which launched in January 2024, remains the largest US spot Bitcoin ETF. The firm maintains that it does not engage in proprietary selling, acting instead as a pass-through for shareholders who choose to redeem their positions for cash.
