BlackRock and IFM Investors are currently in exclusive negotiations to acquire a data center portfolio with a valuation of $25 billion. This move aligns with BlackRock's ongoing strategy to expand its presence in AI-related infrastructure.
In July 2026, BlackRock’s Global Infrastructure Partners finalized the acquisition of Aligned Data Centers for $40 billion. This transaction provided control over 51 campuses with a total capacity exceeding 6.4 gigawatts, including a $5 billion allocation for future expansion.
BlackRock also entered an 80/20 joint venture with Meta to construct a data center in El Paso, Texas, valued at $14 billion. The facility is projected to reach 1 gigawatt of capacity by 2028. Additionally, the firm maintains a $27 billion joint venture with the Spanish company ACS.
IFM Investors, based in Melbourne, oversees approximately AUD 230 billion in assets. The firm has been actively developing its data center portfolio, notably acquiring the Swiss operator Green Group in July 2025. Technology companies are increasingly opting to lease capacity from such landlords to manage capital expenditures.
