Following the US midterm elections on November 3, 2026, crypto tokens linked to political events experienced a decline. Specifically, tokens such as TRUMP and WLFI saw their values drop by November 4, 2026.

In contrast, major market assets including Bitcoin, Ether, and Solana maintained stability during the same period. Bitwise CIO Matt Hougan noted that this decoupling indicates a shift in market behavior.

Hougan suggests that the industry is maturing, as assets are no longer moving as a single herd. He argues that institutional investors are increasingly evaluating digital assets based on fundamentals.

Data on Bitcoin drawdowns supports this view, with recent declines averaging approximately 50 percent, compared to historical peaks that reached 80 percent. Institutional interest is also shifting toward revenue-generating protocols.

While these observations suggest a change in market dynamics, Hougan cautions that a single post-election period does not confirm a permanent regime shift. Political tokens remain tied to specific event outcomes.
