Bitcoin recorded a 42.9% price increase during the third quarter of 2026, marking its strongest performance for this period since 2017. The asset began the quarter near $58,500 and closed September in the range of $83,000 to $86,000. This rally concluded a three-quarter losing streak and represents the best quarterly growth since Q4 2024.
Institutional demand served as a primary driver, with US spot Bitcoin ETFs attracting approximately $6.3 billion in inflows throughout the quarter. A significant portion of this volume, roughly $2.4 billion, was recorded during the week ending September 25. Additionally, corporate buying resumed, with holdings at Strategy reaching approximately 847,666 BTC.
Traditional assets showed more modest gains during the same period, with gold rising about 8.7% and both the S&P 500 and Nasdaq increasing by roughly 2%. Bitcoin remains below its all-time high of nearly $126,000, which was reached in October 2025.
Macroeconomic factors contributed to the market environment, including Treasury debt repurchase announcements in mid-August and favorable PCE inflation data that reduced expectations for Federal Reserve rate hikes. Future market direction will depend on continued institutional ETF flows, corporate purchasing activity, and upcoming inflation readings.
