The Bitcoin Core 32.0 update is currently in the release-candidate testing phase. Developers have scheduled the final version for release on October 10, though this timeline remains subject to change based on testing results.
The update introduces parallel database reading to accelerate block verification. Additionally, four wallet commands will transition to a new format for handling partially signed transactions, though legacy support remains available for applications.
Security enhancements include a fix for a vulnerability where malicious wallet names could trigger unauthorized commands on non-Windows systems. This issue specifically affected setups where the walletnotify feature was active.
A separate patch addresses memory exhaustion issues within the new HTTP server. Contributor Matthew Zipkin identified the flaw using an AI model called Kimi K3. Further review by GitHub user jeanpablojp revealed that unauthenticated connections could also trigger memory growth.
Following revisions, the memory usage for 16 unauthenticated connections was reduced to approximately 3 MB over 90 seconds, compared to 3.2 GB previously. The patch was merged into the software on September 5.
