On September 21, Binance recorded a net taker volume spike exceeding $618 million within a single hour. This surge on the exchange's derivatives platform indicates a significant imbalance between aggressive buyers and sellers, as tracked by the analytics firm CryptoQuant.
The activity occurred as Bitcoin surpassed the $85,000 mark, with the BTC/USDT pair rising by approximately 6.7%. This rapid price movement triggered over $400 million in short liquidations across the broader cryptocurrency market.
Liquidations on perpetual futures markets force the execution of market buy orders, creating additional buying pressure. No other major exchange reported similar spikes in net taker volume during this specific timeframe.
Binance has seen similar activity earlier in 2026. In January, the exchange recorded a spike of over $500 million in an hour, while in April, cumulative net taker volume exceeded $1 billion during a volatile session.
