Over the past 18 months, major technology corporations have engaged in a wave of AI-related deals totaling nearly $200 billion. This activity includes acquisitions, investments, and licensing agreements aimed at securing talent, infrastructure, and developer platforms.
Notable transactions include SpaceX agreeing to acquire Anysphere for $60 billion in June 2026. Nvidia reached a $12.9 billion agreement for Hugging Face, while AMD secured a deal for World Labs valued at $8.2 billion.
Strategic investments and licensing arrangements are also prevalent. Meta invested $14.3 billion in Scale AI, and Google entered a $2.4 billion arrangement with Windsurf to access technology and research talent.
OpenAI has expanded its portfolio through the $6.5 billion acquisition of the hardware startup io and the $1.1 billion purchase of Statsig. These moves reflect a shift toward developing consumer-facing AI products.
The median age of the startups involved in these deals is four years. While these transactions offer significant returns for venture capital investors, many agreements remain subject to closing conditions.
