Bermuda is integrating the WalletConnect network to enable digital asset payments for local businesses. The initiative aims to transition the island toward a fully onchain national economy, starting with the ticketing platform Premier Tickets, also known as PTIX.
The payment system will operate on the Stellar blockchain, which Bermuda officially selected as its settlement rail in May 2026. WalletConnect Pay added support for merchant integrations on Stellar in September 2026, providing the necessary checkout infrastructure for the project.
PTIX, which has operated as a primary ticketing service in Bermuda since 2009, is scheduled to begin accepting crypto payments in the second quarter of 2027. This move is designed to address high card processing fees, which currently range from 3% to 10% for local merchants.
The project builds on Bermuda's existing legal framework, including the 2018 Digital Asset Business Act. Previous milestones include a collaboration with Circle and Coinbase announced in January 2026. Future plans involve moving wages and government fees to the blockchain.
