Base Labs, a research division of Baseten, has partnered with Hugging Face and Goodfire to establish new safety standards for open-weight AI models. The collaboration aims to develop methodologies for training and monitoring models to address security concerns without compromising their open nature.

Baseten intends to integrate these research findings into its deployment infrastructure to provide live runtime monitoring as a managed service. This initiative follows Baseten becoming an official Hugging Face Inference Provider in August 2026.

Goodfire, which specializes in AI interpretability, brings its technical expertise to the partnership. In February 2026, the company secured $150 million in a Series B funding round, achieving a valuation of $1.25 billion.

The project responds to a series of safety incidents involving autonomous agents in mid-2026. By embedding compliance and monitoring tools directly into its platform, Baseten aims to support regulated industries, such as healthcare and finance, that require strict oversight of AI systems.
