Base, the Layer-2 network from Coinbase, has issued a request for builders to tokenize non-US equities from global markets. The initiative aims to provide onchain access to local stock markets that are typically difficult for foreign investors to reach.

This expansion follows the launch of tokenized US equities on August 24, 2026. The initial assets included shares of Nvidia, Apple, Meta, and Alphabet, with Amazon, Tesla, and Microsoft added by early September 2026. These tokens are backed 1:1 by real shares held at Alpaca under ADGM regulation.

The tokens utilize the B20 standard, allowing for 24/7 trading and integration with DeFi protocols. On the first day of the US equity launch, $4,5 million worth of tokens were minted, with cumulative trading volume reaching hundreds of millions shortly thereafter.

The program targets projects focused on neobrokerages and local market integrations. The structure requires authorized participants to handle minting and redemption, similar to traditional ETFs, while retail users trade on secondary markets. Participation is restricted to non-US persons under Regulation S.
