The Dutch startup Axelera AI has officially launched its second-generation AIPU chip, Europa. The new SoC is designed to handle intensive artificial intelligence tasks, delivering a performance of 629 TOPS through its eight dedicated AI processing cores.
The Europa chip features 16 integrated RISC-V vector processing cores and supports INT4, INT8, and INT16 data formats. It includes 128MB of on-chip L2 cache and supports 256-bit LPDDR5 memory. The hardware provides four PCIe Gen4 lanes and operates at a total power consumption of 45W.
Axelera AI plans to distribute the Europa chip in two configurations: as a standalone chip and as a PCIe AIC. The company claims that the chip offers six times the token throughput per watt compared to GPU solutions and over eight times the token throughput per dollar compared to competing products.
