AWS has released Pizza Bot, an open-source inbox designed for managing background AI agents. The project is available under the Apache 2.0 license and offers desktop builds for macOS, Windows, and Linux, alongside browser and terminal clients. The system architecture relies on a Hono API server for runtime execution and storage, while DeepAgents and LangGraph handle stateful operations.
The platform organizes tasks into three categories: All, Unread, and Action, allowing users to manage thread history and approvals. Tasks can be initiated manually, via webhooks, or through cron schedules. The server manages scheduling, ensuring that missed intervals result in a single catch-up run rather than replaying all missed tasks. Persistent storage is handled by SQLite.
Pizza Bot supports integration with multiple AI providers, including Amazon Bedrock, Anthropic, Google Gemini, OpenAI, OpenRouter, and Ollama. Users can configure these providers in the settings menu. The system includes a sandboxed JavaScript interpreter that operates without network or host-filesystem access, ensuring secure execution of agent tasks.
The platform supports MCP servers for external tool access, with worker instructions defined in SKILL.md files. Skill authors can set specific policies for tool usage, requiring user approval for actions. Users have the ability to approve, edit, or reject proposed arguments for these tools. The system also supports existing Claude Code-compatible configurations.
