AvtoVAZ has begun testing a prototype of the hybrid Lada Azimut crossover. The vehicle features a plug-in hybrid powertrain based on a series-parallel architecture. The internal combustion engine powers the front wheels, while electric motors on both axles provide all-wheel drive without a mechanical connection between them.
The interior includes a new digital instrument cluster developed by the Russian company Itelma, which displays energy flow animations. While specific power output, battery capacity, and electric range remain undisclosed, the manufacturer claims the hybrid model can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in approximately 6 seconds.
The hybrid prototype is currently undergoing testing alongside a turbocharged version of the Azimut, as confirmed by AvtoVAZ CEO Maxim Sokolov. Both variants are being evaluated as foundations for the future Lada model lineup. The company has not yet announced production timelines or pricing for the hybrid version.
