Aviva Investors has introduced a tokenized share class for its Sterling Liquidity Fund, utilizing the XRP Ledger. The firm committed £50 million of its own capital to this new class, which is part of a fund managing approximately £22 billion in total assets.
The shares are issued as Multi-Purpose Tokens (MPTs) and are intended exclusively for eligible institutional investors. These tokens are held in digital wallets but come with a significant restriction: they cannot be transferred between holders or traded on secondary markets.
This initiative follows the launch of a tokenized USD Liquidity Fund share class in July 2026. With the addition of the sterling class, Aviva's total tokenized money market fund assets now surpass £86 million.
The project operates under a digital twin model, ensuring the fund continues to function off-chain with its original investment objectives, risk profile, and daily liquidity. The structure remains compliant with the European UCITS regulatory framework.
BNY, which serves as the custodian for the fund's underlying assets, has expanded its digital asset platform to support XRP and RLUSD. This development aims to bridge traditional asset management with on-chain ledger technology.
