Emin Gün Sirer, the founder of Avalanche, recently suggested that artificial intelligence could identify security vulnerabilities within the XRP Ledger. He argues that the industry should prioritize addressing existing software bugs over concerns about the potential future obsolescence of cryptographic standards like ECDSA.

Sirer posits that AI models are capable of discovering flaws in blockchain code, libraries, and digital wallets that human developers might overlook. According to his assessment, such exploits could potentially lead to the theft of billions of dollars long before advanced AI poses a direct threat to widely used cryptographic methods.

The discussion follows a recent emergency software update for the XRP Ledger, which was released on September 25. The update, version 3.4.1, included a batch fix and stability improvements. The development team initially deployed these security patches without providing the source code, though they committed to releasing it alongside a technical retrospective.

The broader crypto industry remains divided on the risks posed by AI. While Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has expressed concern that AI-driven mathematical discoveries could threaten lattice-based cryptography within two years, others like Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson have dismissed such predictions as speculative and lacking mathematical support.
