Atlassian has announced new Jira features designed to support always-on agentic artificial intelligence in software development. These tools allow engineering teams to scale AI agents while maintaining governance over their actions during long-term operations.

The company introduced Code Context, powered by its Teamwork Graph, to provide agents with intelligence across complex codebases. New Agent Space Settings and Agent Context Controls enable management to define operational boundaries and access levels for these systems, similar to employee permissions.

The new AutoDev system automates the creation of code merge requests by scanning backlogs. It includes a standards-based review agent and a DevDocs agent that automatically updates technical documentation in Confluence based on code repository changes.

To ensure transparency, Atlassian provides backend tools for accountability and visibility. Every agent operation generates an audit log, allowing teams to measure AI impact through metrics such as throughput, quality, and cost, while a dedicated dashboard tracks usage and outcomes.
