Astera Labs has expanded its Leo smart memory controller lineup by introducing three new series: Leo X, Leo 2 E, and Leo 2 P. These additions aim to enhance memory management capabilities for data centers and AI-focused hardware architectures.
The Leo 2 E and Leo 2 P controllers comply with the CXL 3.2 specification and support four downstream DDR4 or DDR5 memory channels. The Leo 2 E features a PCIe Gen6 1x16 single-port configuration, while the Leo 2 P offers a 2x8 dual-port setup to enable memory pooling and sharing.
The Leo X series is designed for network-based architectures to support AI accelerators. It integrates with Astera Labs' Scorpio network switch chips to facilitate GPU scaling via PCIe and platform-specific protocols, creating a dedicated memory tier for KV Cache and agent context offloading.
According to the manufacturer, the Leo X series reduces time-to-first-token latency by up to 62% and increases token throughput by up to 22% for GPU-based KV Cache access.
