Software developer Brandon Thomas has launched seven open-source alternatives to Adobe creative applications under the Artcraft brand. The suite includes tools modeled after Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere, Lightroom, After Effects, InDesign, and Acrobat Pro.

Thomas utilized Anthropic’s Claude Opus 5.5 to develop the software, which is written in Rust with WebAssembly support for browser access. The projects are released under MIT and Apache licenses, aiming to replicate functionality without copying source code.

The applications are currently in an early alpha stage, with users reporting bugs and missing features. While Thomas initially aimed for full feature parity within a month, he now estimates that reaching 99% parity will take several months.

Development is funded through paid access to Artcraft’s visual AI tools integrated into the suite. Thomas, who has coded exclusively with AI since February, stated the project was motivated by dissatisfaction with Adobe’s cancellation fees.
